Time-lapse soil Electrical Conductivity (EC) profiling is a way of monitoring soil moisture profile changes of long transects over time. If a DualEM 1s is towed by a centre pivot or lateral move irrigator and automated so that it operates every time the irrigator moves then time-lapse imaging becomes more affordable.

The price given includes a DualEM 1s with GNSS, an external logger/modem, internet cloud services, automation to make the system operate each time the irrigator moves, and robust encasement and break-free tether to the irrigator. Installation costs, and data display/reporting costs are not included. This price is offered for cases where farmers may acquire data but, due to being on forefront of research, imaging and reporting, although no onerous, are taken care of in research grants. This system can be operated in time lapse up until removal and re-attachment on another irrigator span, another irrigator, or even behind other farm vectors such as robotic sprayers.

The DUALEM-1 has 1-m separation between its transmitter and dual receivers, so its dual depths of conductivity measurement are 0.5 m and 1.6 m (by the 70-% cumulative-sensitivity guideline). In-phase measurements sound magnetic susceptibility and detect metal. The DUALEM-1 depths of measurement are ideal for many agricultural applications, and spatial resolution that is well suited to archaeological investigation. For metal detection, the DUALEM-1 can detect a steel drum to a depth of about 1 m.
