ERT from the bottom up

  • Price: 27000
  • Comms: Cellular

For projects involving soil moisture profile imaging over long periods requiring reliable set-and-forget telemetered operation it is better to image from the bottom up using cable installed in a deep backfilled trench. Software is then used to model layers up to the surface from ERT data collected from clusters of electrodes.

This technique has advantages in:

  1. Cracking clay soil,
  2. Where farm machinery including ploughs must drive over the site, &
  3. Where near surface soil can get extremely dry at times.

The telemetry and electronics can be situated up to 400m from the electrode cable without the need for a booster box.

The price given does not include trenching and installation but does include:

- SchwaRTech Earth resistivity Meter with internal modem

- Cloud services, cellular communication and web access to data

- Cables including arrays of electrodes (8 included with support for up to 16 at this price, up to 60,000 are possible).

- Tomographic Electrode switch box for 16 electrodes

- Solar panel, charger, battery, wiring and enclosure.

Installation often will make sense coupled with weather station components. We offer data display software and there is also open source ResIPy for more advanced processing. Although the technique is simply resistivity measurement the practical, tomographic, telemetered application is at the interface of commercialization and research.
